Job description:

We are currently seeking a Vice President of Platform Engineering who will be responsible for leading a team of developers and product managers in a high traffic, scaled environment. The selected candidate will lead product portfolio including CMS, an MVC based application development framework environment and strategic priorities around performance & scalability of our overall platform. The Vice President of Platform Engineering will actively participate in defining the strategic and product vision for the technology development group. Synacor is seeking a technologist with a strong background in development and architecture, combined with superb executive management skills.

Synacor is interested in individuals with expertise in high-traffic/scalable Internet architectures, Internet search and advertising technologies, online video, large-scale email deployments, and ISP/cable billing systems.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Lead a team of developers, architects, and product managers to build the platform strategy at Synacor
• Drive agile product development processes and create a rhythm of regular platform releases for internal and external customers of Synacor platforms
• Establish consistent engineering principles and procedures, coordinate integrated software releases, and provide guidance on best practices and engineering problem resolution throughout the organization
• Maintain a keen focus on end-to-end performance of platforms
• Define systems architecture and design for platforms
• Evaluate proposed designs and architecture for feasibility of design and sustainability under long-term development and support efforts
• Hire, mentor and develop strong development and product management teams
• Lead engineering teams to gather, define, and document product and solution requirements

What you’ll need to bring to the table:

• 10+ years professional experience managing product development and engineering teams in the Internet industry
• Bachelors/Masters Degree in Computer Science/Engineering required
• Hands-on technical experience driving technical architecture, looking at the big picture and how the design will fit into the corporate strategy
• Demonstrated ability to manage focused engineering teams and concurrent project tracks with attention to achieving milestones and executing on deliverables in a predictable manner.
• Technical expertise in a LAMP environment preferred
• Scrum/Agile experience a plus
• Experience with highly scalable and highly available systems architectures
• Good working knowledge of leading online consumer categories
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
